Performer and Choreographer, Sonia creates poetic and intimate works inspired by her practise in classical Indian dance and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Sonia‘s work has received the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Quebec Arts Council, the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute and the City of Gatineau.  Her work has been presented in venues including the Ottawa Dance Directive (2012), the Gesu in Montreal for Nuit Blanche (2013, 2014), the Festival of Oral Literature in Toronto (2011), the Odissi International festival in India (2013) and Festival Accès Asie in Montreal (2015).

Initially trained in Odissi dance in Ottawa, she has been deepening her knowledge of this art in India since 2005 with Aloka Panikar and Sujata Mohapatra.  Sonia is also an active practitioner of the Alexander technique and Yoga.  Her keen interest in music led her to study classical western singing with Opera singer Stephanie Piercy Beames and she was introduced to the basics of hindustani vocals during India trips.

Sonia teaches Odissi dance at the Académie de danse de l’Outaouais in Gatineau.  She offers school workshops in collaboration with the Quebec Government program Culture in the schools as well as with  MASC .

In 2013, Sonia founded Projets Ollin , an arts based NGO whose work seeks to enhance sustainable development.
