The word Pallavi means to elaborate. This type of choreography is technical, abstract and its vocabulary is inspired by temple sculptures and the archetype of Alasa Kanya, young languorous maidens. A sensuous theme expressed in movement by curves and bends juxtaposed to intricate footwork. Every Pallavi is choreographed to a raga (Indian melody) and derives its name from it.
